The
Shofar & Humility
According to Wikipedia, “A shofar (Hebrew: שופר) is a horn, traditionally that of a ram, used for Jewish religious purposes. Shofar-blowing is incorporated in synagogue services on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Shofar come in a variety of sizes.”
According to Rivka C. Berman, in “Rosh Hashanah Shofar Blowing" (http://www.mazornet.com/holidays/RoshHashanah/shofar.htm):
“A bent shofar symbolizes humility, a necessary attribute of the penitent. The hollowed shofar represent the goal of minimizing one’s ego to make room for holiness, symbolized by the air that rushes through the horn.”
