Brief Questionnaire to Assess Compatibility
With Worldview Themes #49A & 49B

Respond to each of the following below on a 1 to 5 scale, where
     1= strongly disagree      2 = disagree      3 = neutral      4 = agree      5 = strongly agree
If you don’t have understand, or are confused by a particular question, select 3= neutral.

Note: An * in front of the question indicates that this has been used in national public opinion surveys.

*1. Rather than having the government take more responsibility to ensure that everyone is provided for, people should take more responsibility to provide for themselves.

2. I much prefer a government that regulates little, generally gets out of the way and helps creates a climate for private business to flourish over one that enacts lots of regulations related to workplace safety and environmental quality.

*3. I favor a progressive income tax structure so that people with higher incomes pay a higher tax rate on their incomes than people with lower incomes.

*4. Government ownership of business and industry should be increased.

*5. In democracies the economic system generally runs badly. I am much more comfortable with centrally planned economies.

6. Giving a strong centralized government complete control of all means of production is a recipe for economic disaster.

*7. Our government ought to reduce the income differences between the rich and the poor perhaps by raising the taxes of wealthy families or by giving assistance to the poor.

*8. I think it should be the government’s responsibility to provide health care for the sick.

*9. The government in this country is too concerned or cares too much about the social welfare of people.

10. I would be not be uncomfortable living in a pure socialist state with centrally planned economy, control of all means of production, and all property held in common for the public welfare (no private property).

*11. It is the responsibility of the government to reduce the differences in income between people with high incomes and those with low incomes.

*12. Consider two statements about freedom and equality. 1) Freedom and equality are both important. If I had to choose, I’d consider personal freedom more important, that is, everyone can live in freedom and develop without hindrance. 2) Certainly both freedom and equality are important. If I had to choose, I’d consider equality more important, that is, nobody is underprivileged and social class differences are not so strong.  I prefer the second statement.

*13. To help the poor in this country, I’d support the government guaranteeing everyone a minimum income.
