With Worldview Theme #31

Respond to each of the following below on a 1 to 5 scale, where
     1= strongly disagree      2 = disagree      3 = neutral      4 = agree      5 = strongly agree
If you don’t have understand, or are confused by a particular question, select 3= neutral.

Note: An * in front of the question indicates that this has been used in national public opinion surveys.

*1. Education is critically important to making for a good society, just as having a good education is critically important to me personally.

*2. Students need a stronger education in science and math to be prepared for the new inventions, discoveries and technologies that increased investment in research and development will likely bring.

*3. I have recently contributed money or other property to a school or educational institution.

*4. I have a degree from a four year college or university (or expect to have one by the time I turn 25!).

5. Education should be about more than teaching basics or providing job training. It should, figuratively speaking, shine a light into dark places, where ignorance, fear, and superstition dwell, making it more difficult for demagogues to manipulate people like sheep, or for discrimination / violation of human rights to occur.

6. Given society’s growing technological complexity, and that voters are sometimes asked to make decisions involving these complexities, along with ethical ones, schools should prepare students for doing this.

7. Education should help people appreciate their heritage, the natural world, and the nature / connectedness of things.

*8. I believe that it’s absolutely essential that all children be able to go to a public school free of charge.

*9. I think that the federal government spends too much money on education.

*10. I think that, at minimum, a degree from a four year college or university is essential for success in our society.

*11. It is important that colleges and universities teach students how to cope with a rapidly changing world.

*12. It is important that colleges and universities help students develop good values and ethical positions.

*13. I would support having the government give low income families money to help pay for their children to attend private or religious schools instead of their local public school even if this meant less money being available for public schools.
