Brief Questionnaire to Assess Compatibility
With Worldview Themes #1A &1B

Respond to each of the following below on a 1 to 5 scale, where
     1= strongly disagree      2 = disagree      3 = neutral      4 = agree      5 = strongly agree
If you don’t have understand, or are confused by a particular question, select 3= neutral.

Note: An * in front of the question indicates that this has been used in national public opinion surveys.

1. It is hard to promote my beliefs with certainty, given my own doubts.

2. My appreciation of the complexity of the world and the smallness and ignorance of any one person tends to make me skeptical of those who proclaim their beliefs with great certainty. Metaphorically speaking, where others see things in black and white, I often see shades of gray.

*3. My faith is completely free of doubts.

*4. It is especially important that young people be encouraged to learn to think for themselves, even more so than their learning to work hard, be responsible, independent, obedient, unselfish, tolerant, thrifty, determined, or have religious faith.

5.  I tend to put my trust in small experiences, not high principles or lofty ideals.

6. Basically skeptical of what others accept on faith, I often actively speak my mind. I don't shy away from  challenging those who strongly advocate a particular belief.

7. I sometimes view the certainty with which true believers express their beliefs with outright disdain, scorn, and hostility.

*8. I try hard to carry my religious beliefs over into all my other dealings in life.

9. I often question what others unquestionably accept.

10. Conceivably, someone might characterize me as passive, not proud, not arrogant, and not assertive.

*11. I question the assertion that some of the unidentified flying objects that have been reported are really space vehicles from other civilizations.

*12. I am not at all confident that for the prescription medicines seen advertised on television the benefits outweigh the risks.

*13. I am rarely unsure as to how I should behave.

*14. I believe that a good person who doesn’t share my religious beliefs can still attain salvation or go to heaven (or for non-religious people add “or live out his or her remaining years in psychological peace”).

*15. I consider myself to be either an atheist, agnostic, or have no religion.

*16. I believe that the story of Christmas -- that is, the Virgin Birth, the angelic proclamation to the shepherds, the Star of Bethlehem, and the Wise Men from the East -- is historically accurate, not just a theological story written to affirm faith in Jesus Christ.
