Note: The characterization of Alexander von Humboldt's worldview that follows is based on the book The Invention of Nature by Andrea Wulf.                In its Epilogue, Wulf sums up why Humboldt was important and why his life should be remembered today:

"One of Humboldt's greatest achievements was to make science accessible and popular. Everybody learned from him: farmers and craftsmen, schoolboys and teachers, artists and musicians, scientists and politicians...Humboldt was not known for a single fact or discovery but for his worldview. His vision of nature has passed into our consciousness as if by osmosis. It is almost as though his ideas have become so manifest that the man behind them has disappeared."

*Important Note: Obviously the above famous person did not look over all 104 project Worldview themes and make the above selections, nor answer any related questionnaires gauging compatibility with worldview themes. Rather the above characterization of this person's worldview is based on the historic record--and in particular the above reference.  Of course an individual's worldview can change during the course of their adult lives. The worldview presented above represents what is believed to be that of the person when he or she was in the prime of life and at the peak of influencing others and making an impact.  If you feel that we have it wrong in some way, please contact us!
