#49A SOCIAL WELFARE STATISM #49B SOCIALISM
I am a believer in the concentration of economic controls and planning in the hands of a highly centralized government (statism).  I prefer a strong national government that: 1) takes responsibility to ensure that everyone is looked out for by providing extensive social services, and 2) assures environmental quality, workplace safety and societal stability through appropriate regulations.  (Note: While social welfare states heavily tax private property, they don’t challenge its sanctity as socialism does. ) I believe in a centrally planned socialist economic system in which, not only does the state control all means of production but, production and distribution are designed to directly satisfy economic demands and human needs with the common good, rather than private profit and accumulation of wealth, in mind. (Note: socialist economies can take different forms: some retain aspects of capitalism, some reject central planning, some embrace democracy, etc. Communist states have all property held in common for the public welfare.)
